Charles M. Zacks, M.D.
Charles M. Zacks, M.D. is a fellowship trained ophthalmologist specializing in medical and surgical care for corneal and external diseases of the eye. He performs a wide range of procedures, including conventional corneal transplantation, endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK), cataract surgery, and treatment of less common disorders such as ocular tumors and eye trauma reconstruction.
Dr. Zacks has been caring for patients at Maine Eye Center since 1990. He earned his medical degree at Yale after graduating with honors from Brown University. He completed a residency in San Francisco at the California Pacific Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in corneal and external diseases at the internationally recognized Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami.
Committed to medical education, Dr. Zacks has an active teaching schedule for the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Bettman Lecture Program, and as an associate professor of the University of Vermont. Dr. Zacks is also published in peer reviewed medical literature and textbooks on topics ranging from corneal physiology to medical ethics.
As an active member of the ophthalmic community, Dr. Zacks’ holds leadership positions in regional and national ophthalmologic organizations, including a committee chairmanship in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and Vice President of the New England Ophthalmologic Society. He represents Maine in the Academy’s Council, and is a Past President of the Maine Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Zacks is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
