The Brow Lift

Since the eyes are the first to show signs of aging, it makes sense that the browlift is popular. The browlift is much more common than a facelift for the 35 to 45 year-old. Take your finger and feel along your eyebrow. That bony ridge underneath is called the orbital rim. With age, the eyebrow drops to or below that rim, creating a tired or angry look. Taking out upper lid skin with a blepharoplasty would not raise the brow and might even lower it further. To create an open, alert expression requires repositioning of the eyebrows with a browlift. Visit Our Eyelid Surgery Specialist, Natan Kahn, M.D.

Endoscopic Browlift

There has been several advances in browlift technique in recent years. The most modern is the minimally invasive method called endoscopic browlift. Several small incisions are made above the hairline and small endoscopes combined with video cameras are placed underneath the skin. Using this indirect instrumentation, the muscles and underlying structures are re-suspended. No skin is removed and the hairline stays in approximately the same position, while the eyebrows are moved up. In the right hands it offers every advantage: less scarring, no hair loss, faster healing."

Direct Browlift

With the direct browlift, the incision is placed immediately above the brows and follows the natural curve of the eyebrow. It will not raise the hairline. With careful surgical technique and meticulous suturing, the scars should be barely noticeable.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces bagginess from lower eyelids and raises drooping upper eyelids. The procedure calls for the removal of excess skin, muscle, and underlying fatty tissue. While it is primarily a cosmetic procedure, blepharoplasty is also an effective method for improving sight in older patients whose sagging upper eyelids obstruct their vision.  If you are of Asian descent, blepharoplasty can add an upper eyelid crease but will not hide your ethnic or racial heritage. Blepharoplasty does not eliminate dark circles under the eyes or remove crow's feet or other facial wrinkles. Often, blepharoplasty is performed in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures, such as laser resurfacing or brow lifts.
