After taking this test you will be contacted by Maine Eye Center if you meet the pre-requisite requirements. All LASIK candidates will be required to undergo a pre-operative eye exam before candidacy is approved.

Martin D. Whitaker, M.D.
Martin D. Whitaker, M.D. is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who treats patients with cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.
Dr. Whitaker graduated from the University of London in 1984 with honors earning a degree in chemical engineering. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, he completed his internship at Western Pennsylvania Hospital and residency at the Eye Institute, Medical College of Wisconsin where he was awarded the Copeland award for outstanding resident research.
Prior to joining Maine Eye Center, Dr. Whitaker worked with Western Mountain Ophthalmology and was the owner of Riverside Eye Center in Norway and Auburn, Maine. Dr. Whitaker was president of medical staff at Stephen’s Memorial Hospital in 2009 and is an active staff member of Stephen’s Memorial Hospital, Central Maine Medical, and Maine Medical Center. He is a courtesy staff member of Franklin Memorial Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital. He is especially interested in finding ways to improve patient satisfaction, particularly with cataract surgery.
Dr. Whitaker is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, and Maine Medical Association. Dr. Whitaker enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Dareth, and two children.
