Frank W. Read, M.D. has been practicing ophthalmology in Portland since 1971, with special emphasis on cataract surgery and glaucoma management. He graduated from Williams College and Tufts Medical School. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Stanford University. Dr. Read is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Read served as the Chief of Ophthalmology at Maine Medical Center for 15 years, and is a past president of the Maine Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. He also is an Associate Clinical Professor at the Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Read has hospital privileges at Maine Medical Center and Mercy Hospital in Portland and at Memorial Hospital and Androscoggin Valley Hospital in New Hampshire.
Annually, Dr. Read participates in a medical mission to the western highlands of Guatemala, where he donates his time along with other volunteers from the Maine Eye Center staff, providing much needed medical eye treatment and surgery to the indigenous people of the region. Dr. Read is an avid golfer and resides in Cumberland with his wife Nancy.
