Frederick S. Miller, III, M.D. is a fellowship trained vitreo-retinal physician and surgeon. With over 25 years of experience, he evaluates and treats patients with disorders that affect the retina and vitreous of the eye, including diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and macular degeneration.
After graduating with honors from Harvard, Dr. Miller served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Upon completing his tour of duty, he attended Case Western Reserve Medical School where he received his medical degree, followed by his medical internship at the University of Colorado Affiliated Hospitals. He trained for four years in his specialty of eye diseases and surgery at the University of Washington Medical Center, and an additional fellowship year studying vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery at University Hospital in Seattle.
Prior to joining Maine Eye Center in 1987, Dr. Miller served as a faculty member at Dartmouth Medical Center in Hanover, New Hampshire for five years.
Dr. Miller is certified by the American Board for Ophthalmology and is a past chairman of Public Information for the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists and serves on the clinical faculty of the Tufts University School of Medicine and the Maine Medical Center.
