Eye Care in Portland, ME

Portland, Maine is home to an exceptional team of ophthalmologists at Maine Eye Center, providing a wide range of eye care services, including:

Cataract Surgery

Most people start developing cataracts as they age. Nevertheless, cataract surgery is the most effective method of treating cataracts. An intraocular lens (IOL) is used to replace an eye’s natural lens during cataract surgery. Depending on the IOL you opt for, your vision could be better than ever!

LASIK Eye Surgery & PRK Eye Surgery

Both LASIK & PRK are refractive surgeries aimed at changing the cornea’s shape. LASIK & PRK treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism while also reducing dependency on contact lenses & glasses. A critical difference between PRK & LASIK is that PRK removes corneal tissue, whereas LASIK creates a flap. These procedures, however, may not be suitable for everyone who wants it. If you want to know if you are a candidate for one of these refractive surgeries, please take our LASIK self-test today!

Retina

On the inside of the back of the eye, there is a thin layer of tissue known as the retina. At Maine Eye Center, we are proud to treat a large variety of retinal issues. Several of these retinal issues can include retinal detachment, flashes, floaters, & macular degeneration.

Cornea

The eyes are made up of several layers; the outermost layer is known as the cornea. Light passes through the cornea to the retina as its primary function. We offer corneal transplants and DSEK and treatment for corneal issues such as keratoconus at Maine Eye Center.

Glaucoma Treatment Options

By examining your eyes routinely, you can prevent glaucoma. Since glaucoma does not show symptoms until significant damage has occurred, earning the nickname “the silent thief of sight.” There is no cure for glaucoma, and damage done cannot be repaired. Should you develop glaucoma, we have treatment options available to slow the progression of the disease.

We specialize in various pediatric ophthalmology areas, such as amblyopia, congenital & traumatic cataracts, retinopathy of prematurity refractive errors, strabismus, & near-ophthalmology.
