Sirus Hamzavi, MD is a fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon who specializes in the treatment of vitreous and retinal disorders including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinovascular disorders. 

Dr. Hamzavi received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry and biophysics, magna cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh and his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Following graduation, he did his internship in general surgery at the Hershey Medical Center of the Pennsylvania State University. After a glaucoma research fellowship at the Storm Eye Institute of the Medical University of South Carolina, he obtained his residency in ophthalmology at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport. Dr. Hamzavi then entered the private practice of cataract and glaucoma surgery before obtaining additional training in vitreoretinal surgery at the Center for Specialty Eye Care associated with the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. 

Dr. Hamzavi has practiced in Maine since 2003. He is board certified in Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. Dr. Hamzavi is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. 

Dr. Hamzavi’s practice is located at the Maine Eye Lowell campus location at 15 Lowell Street, Portland, Maine.
